Case: EVOC Solution to Avoid the Effect of Snow Disaster

Case Background:

In the minds of Chinese people, the memory of "power failure" has become increasingly blurred, but America is not. Recently affected by the cold current, Texas and other places in the United States suffered severe snow-storm, and more than 5.5 million households had power outages. What if this happened in China?

The answer is definitely no. We should first know that it is the "relatively warm" south of China that needs to resist ice and protect electricity supply in cold wave. The colder north does not need it. This is related to the southern “clammy magic attack”.

Case Overview:

In the continuous low temperature and rainy weather, the super-cooled water droplet in the air collide with the surface of objects whose near-ground temperature is lower than 0℃ and quickly freeze and become an ice crust. This phenomenon can be called "congelation". For the power grid, the congelation will cause icing of lines and its equipment, affecting power transmission. The power grid in the southern areas of China all needs "anti-ice protection".

In the past, ice watching mainly relied on human eyes; and ice melting relied solely on manpower; But today, UAVs and online monitoring devices are strategizing; easily realized the popularization of "DC-based ice-melting". It mainly uses a motorized vehicle-mounted ice-melting device to melt ice on the icing line. The staff of the Electric Power Bureau only need to click the mouse to melt the line ice through the background system. The one-button sequential ice-melting operation shortens the original 4 hours of working to 10 minutes, which is very efficient. However, the equipment operating in such a harsh environment is quite amazing.

EVOC Solution:

EVOC SPC-8271D is such an equipment, 2U standard rackmount dedicated IPC, whose EMC performance can meet the fourth-level requirement of China's electric power standard. Its equipped solid-state and mechanical disk can work at -25°C~55°C and -5°C~55°C respectively, and the storage temperature even can reach the range of -40°C~+70°C without any problem. The chassis is designed with a sheet metal material for shielding electromagnetic wave, and it runs in a complex environment without worrying about being affected.

This dedicated IPC has multi-network and multi-serial port, fully compliant with substation data communication gateway device standard and IEC-61850 industry standard, etc; and it adopts COM motherboard and carrier board architecture. Its motherboard is designed based on SkyLake-U platform, with COM Express Type Rev2.1 interface, dual SO-DIMM DDR4 memory slot, and single slot memory supports 16GB, total supports up to 32GB; meanwhile, it has 6 network ports on board, which can be expanded to 12 network ports and 8 serial ports if required.
