System Introduction
In a country where the rural areas are vast and populous, it is of great importance to develop substation automation system (SAS) in the countryside. According to relevant guidelines of expertise, rural substations shall best adopt automation mode and hierarchical distribution. This mode is a total solution that integrates measurement, control, protection and communication.
System Principle
The hierarchical distribution mode is as shown in the following block diagram:

System Configuration
IPC-8562/ 5U 19’’ All-in-one Workstation/ 15’’ TFT LCD/14 slot Industrial Backplane/Push-pull Keyboard with Trackball/ FSC-1812V2NA/ LGA775 Core TM Duo Processor/ 2~4GB DDRII/ SATA HDD
System Evaluation
Due to the exceptional stability and high integration (without additional display, keyboard and mouse), resistance to dust, vibration, shock and electromagnetic interference as well as robustness of the all-in-one workstation, it is used as the hardware platform for most communication controllers. An all-in-one workstation boasts the following advantages:
1) Color LCD screen and membrane keyboard;
2) Field debugging, fully replacing laptop;
3) Easy to operate and maintain, especially suitable for unattended substations;
4) The communication controller supports hot standby redundancy and automatic switchover upon failure;
5) System reset by watchdog upon abnormal operation of the program; and
6) Supports 8~12 channel communication in multiple protocols, baud rates (300~38, 400 bps) and communication modes (RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485) as well as multiple master station interfaces, and facilitates parameter reading and storage, guaranteeing long-term stable operation and management.
