System Introduction
Economic development is catalyzing the construction of expressways. At present, industrial computers are widely applied in modern traffic surveillance system, toll system and customer service centers for intelligent operation. How well the traffic surveillance system and toll system work depends on how well computers and auxiliary units work. The toll system uses advanced technologies of computing, network, automation, video playback, automatic record retention, optical fiber transmission and so on to realize the intelligent control and real-time surveillance of toll collection on toll roads and bridges, and can be connected to the provincial or national network.
System Requirements
Expressway toll system requires uninterrupted and persistent operation in harsh outdoor environment exposed to extreme temperatures, humidity, electromagnetic interference, dirt and vibration. Commercial computers, however, cannot adapt to such conditions. The only way to make the toll system work as it is designed to is using industrial computers for system control, plus the use of damp-proof, dustproof and anti-electromagnetic chassis, more durable and vibration-proof motherboard and industrial class control cards and management modules, so as to achieve stable, reliable and longtime operation of the whole system.
System Principle
The whole system is composed of three computer management systems: toll collection center, toll stations and toll lanes. The toll collection center performs data transmission with toll stations and toll lanes through an optical fiber transmission system.

The toll collection center controls the whole system. Toll stations collect the data from toll lanes and perform data transmission between the toll collection center and toll lanes. Toll lanes collect toll charges from vehicles according to the requirements of the toll collection center and upload toll and traffic data. These three parts are integrated into a complete functional toll system.

System Evaluation
IPC-6805 and IPC-810B industrial PCs serve as image processing computer, toll management computer and the main control unit of toll machines. IPC-8413 industrial PC serves as data processing computer and IC card management computer. Besides, the whole control system also includes FSC-1712CLNA, FSC-1717VN and FSC-1812V2NA embedded CPU cards, PCL-725 8-channel relay output and optical-isolated digital input card and ARK series remote data modules, etc. The system can work uninterruptedly in harsh environments, ensuring smooth toll collection.
